1. What is the Canal Quarter Walking Cat Tour?

   The Canal Quarter Walking Cat Tour is a fun and engaging event that takes participants on a guided tour through the historic Canal Quarter neighborhood, where you’ll meet local cats, learn about the area’s history, and enjoy the beauty of the community. It is created by the FXBG Advance,, a nonprofit newsroom covering local government and schools and Fredericksburg Parent and Family, the local parenting resource for families. 

2. When and where does the event take place?

   The tour will be held on October 12, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. It starts at **Haley’s Honey Meadery and ends at Canal Quarter Arts. 

3. Is this event suitable for all ages?

   Yes! The Canal Quarter Walking Cat Tour is a family-friendly event open to participants of all ages.

4. Do I need to register in advance?

   No need to Register, Just show up and have fun 

5. How long is the walking tour?

   The walk around the neighborhood is  approximately 1.5 miles. The event is from 1-3 PM. You can order cat themed food at Haley’s Honey Meadery and cat themed art at Canal Quarter Arts. 

6. Can I bring my own pet?

   Yes, you can bring your own cat in a carrier, stroller, or bubble, or on a leash.  PLEASE NO DOGS

7. What should I wear or bring?

   Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. You may also want to bring water, a camera, and a curious attitude! Outfits with Cats on them are encouraged and appreciated. We are out here having fun 

8. Will there be stops for refreshments?

   The tour begins at Haley’s Honey Meadery, where Cat themed Food Items will be available to purchase. You can also explore the nearby Canal Quarter shop.

9. How many cats will we meet on the tour?

   The tour features 10+ amazing cats, but you may encounter more feral cats as we explore the neighborhood! There is a managed cat colony on Charles Street. Be on the lookout and count how many Black and white stray cats you can count.

10. Is there a cost to attend the tour?
    There is no cost to participate in the tour however there will be lots of local art up for sale. And if an individual wishes to get their own “yard sign” to feature their cat like the ones seen on the tour, one can be designed for you in exchange  for a donation of any size.

11. Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

    The Canal Quarter area is mostly flat.

12. Who is sponsoring and hosting the event?

    The event is hosted by FXBG Advance and sponsored by Haley’s Honey Meadery  and Canal Quarter Arts

13. Will there be any historical information provided during the tour?

    Yes! In addition to meeting the local cats, participants will learn about the rich history of the Canal Quarter and its significance in the area.

14. Can I take pictures of the cats and the neighborhood?

    Absolutely! Feel free to capture photos of the cats and the beautiful surroundings, but please be respectful of the animals and any private property. We are viewing the cats from a respectful distance. Please understand that the cats may or may not be comfortable appearing. If they change their minds, feel free to take pictures of their yard signs featuring their handsome photos and key facts. We want no uncomfortable or stressed out cats!
