Fredericksburg Arts Commission

Art lovers, browsers and supporters will want to take advantage of the downtown Fredericksburg area, where creativity is abundant. The Fredericksburg Arts Commission (FAC) funds and hosts events, like the First Friday Trolley—a free public transportation service connecting the network of galleries, restaurants and other businesses that have art openings and related events on the first Friday of each month. The trolley car, operated by Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg, runs a circulator route throughout downtown with pickups every 20 minutes from 6 to 9 p.m.

The trolley also stops at Curitiba Art Café, Katora Coffee, Red Dragon Brewery and Tapa Rio.

The Public Sculpture Project consists of three locations that display large-scale, free-standing outdoor sculptures. Artists work independently or in a group and submit a maximum of three works to enter. The finalists’ works are showcased for all to see.

The FAC’s mission is to promote, support and expand the arts as an integral part of life for people in the Fredericksburg area by:

Fostering artistic growth in the region by providing informational resources, hosting celebratory arts events and cosponsoring community cultural events and projects.

Advocating for the arts by creating a unified voice to encourage arts support at local, state and national levels and by drawing connections between the arts and the community.

Coordinating programs to educate citizens about the arts, increase access to the arts and provide forums to address art-related issues in the community.

The FAC welcomes volunteers on its committees, including Public Art, Website, Grants, Venues, Events, First Friday Trolley and Outreach. The FAC meets at the Dorothy Hart Community Center on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
