Virtual Doula Support: Caring for Mothers and Families from Afar

It is truly heartbreaking to see how so many mothers and families are affected by so much uncertainty at a time when they should be feeling empowered and confident. During these challenging and uncertain times, we want to help remind mothers that they are strong and they can do this, no matter what's going on around them. All of our doulas at A Mother’s Perspective are working to help take away added stress during this already trying time.
When one thinks of a doula, one doesn’t typically think of virtual support, but unfortunately, this is the only option for mothers and families during COVD-19.
To ensure no mother or family is left adrift and alone, we are working to offer virtual support in various ways. Mothers are looking for a sense of community and connection, now more than ever. We are now offering virtual doula services for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, as well as virtual pre/postnatal fitness classes. Think of it like having a doula in your back pocket, or a helpful, encouraging, and knowledgeable friend on-demand. Also, we are using this time to harness the convenience of technology in order to offer video tutorials about birth balls, pain management, breastfeeding, and more, for new and expectant mothers to refer to when they need extra guidance. Our virtual services also include group and private fitness classes with our pre/postnatal fitness specialist. Whether it’s 1:1 or a group class, we’re seeing that moms are loving working out with other moms at a time when they’re craving connection.
We understand that this is a highly unusual, very stressful time for Fredericksburg families, and we want to do what we can to meet their needs, especially financially. This is why we have pivoted to allow for more accessible and affordable support for mothers during this crisis. Now, mothers can still feel supported, even during social isolation, because their doula is only a text, email, phone call, or video chat away.
All of our doulas are more than happy to connect with local families to help them decide what course of action best suits their needs. We’re here to help.
