Our calendar mama extraordinaire, Leigha Pecher, has assembled this incredible list of fun summer events and activities to keep you and your crew active and entertained this summer. Enjoy!

Outdoor Fun:

Summer Fun @ Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Richmond: All programs are included with cost of regular garden admission. www.lewisginter.org 

~Butterflies Live. Daily through Oct 14. Experience the wonderful world of butterflies! Tropical beauties — fascinating and showy — transform the Conservatory’s North Wing into a wonderland of vibrant colors, captivating sights and extraordinary discoveries. The exhibit is ever-changing, so every time you visit, you’re likely to see something new.

~Family Walk & Talk. Tuesdays, June - August. Departing at 10 am. Enhance your understanding of the Garden with one of these specialized walks featuring seasonal aspects of the Garden. Includes hands on fun and a take home craft.

~Good Green Fun. Thursdays, June  - August. 5 - 6 pm. Families with kids of all ages are invited to spend time in the Children’s Garden having “good green fun".

~Storytime in the Garden. Fridays, June - August. 10 - 11 am. Enjoy storybooks and activities in the Children’s Garden. Included in garden admission.

~Water Play Weekends. All summer long (weather permitting!). The Children’s Garden is the coolest place to be! Bring or wear your bathing suit and water shoes to enjoy the gentle water sprays. Don’t forget a towel!

Picnic in the Park: Every Tuesday in May & June (except holiday weeks!). 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. Featuring live music and children’s activities. Bring a picnic lunch or buy one in the park. Enjoy the sunshine with your children, friends and co-workers! Free and open to the public! Where: Hurkamp Park, downtown F'burg

Flying Circus Air Show: Every Sunday in the summer (weather permitting), 2 - 4 pm. A parachute jumper opens the show as he glides down while carrying the American flag. A wingwalker thrills an amazed crowd as he waves to them while hanging from his ankles below the biplane's bottom wing! A barnstormer hops rides in a vintage biplane from a makeshift airfield! Movie Under the Stars: Every other Saturday July 7 through Sept 15: 8 pm. Bring your own blankets/chairs and join us for FREE movie on the Jumbotron by the fountain! Movie on the Midway: 8 - 11 pm. June 9 (Beauty & The Beast) June 22 (Frozen): Join us for a fun FREE outdoor movie! Before we watch the movie we will have a chance to meet with some special guests! We will also be hosting a Sing Along party to some of the songs from the movie before the movie starts! The movie will take place outside on our midway! Plenty of lawn seating is available on a first come first serve basis. Seating is limited. Where: Central Park Funland. Movie Start Time is 8:45pm.

Come Make a SPLASH for Young Children: June 24. 6:30 – 9pm. Join Smart Beginnings Rappahannock Area at the Steve and Cheri Thurston Water Park at the Massad Family YMCA for a wet and wild fundraising event. $35 for a 4-pack of tickets. $20 for 2 tickets. Spotsy Outdoor Movie Series. Join us for the 2018 Outdoor Movie Series! Bring your chair or blanket and enjoy the featured film under the stars! Concessions will be available from some of our favorite local food trucks. Where: Loriella Park, 10910 Leavells Rd, F'burg. Sipping Under the Stars. Select Saturday nights throughout the summer. 7 -10 pm. Make your way into the vineyard to sip wine under the stars and enjoy our featured film of the evening. Bring your picnic blanket or lawn chair for your viewing pleasure. Come early to begin your evening with a delectable dinner from Le Grand Cru Bistro in one of our Tuscan Venues. James Madison's Montpelier: Kids Are Free This Summer! July 5 - Aug 31. All kids ages 14 and under visiting with a paying adult get free admission to the House. The free tours make for an affordable and enriching summer experience available to visitors every day of the week. Montpelier will also be offering its "Discovering Montpelier: A Family Friendly Tour," an interactive experience for families that involves using artifacts and documents, participating in kid-friendly activities, and touring the House and its surroundings. www.montpelier.org

Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out: Daily throughout the summer. Explore what lies beneath the surface of some of the world’s most spectacular creatures, using the amazing science of Plastination. ~Fantastic Fauna: As you exit ANIMAL INSIDE OUT, you’ll step into Fantastic Fauna, a Museum-curated exhibition that celebrates the amazing characteristics and behaviors of animals and the biological diversity within the animal kingdom. Explore the unique and extreme features of animals and compare your speed, genetic makeup, longevity and more to those of animals from around the world. Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program: May 15- Sep 3. Read any 8 books, record them in the journal (find info HERE) and turn in to our store and then choose a FREE BOOK from our selection on the Reading Journal list at the store... Enjoy reading!

Books-a-Million Summer Reading: Read any 4 books from the Summer Adventure Ready Section, write about the books you've read in your summer reading adventure notebook, and return to your local store to receive a FREE Mo Willems pencils and pencil case. Go HERE for more info.

This month, Pouches highlights 2 community events which both aim to bring awareness to medical issues. The first is a walk to raise awareness about brain aneurysms, and the second is a book signing for a new book designed to help parents talk to young children about the death of an older sibling.
