Witches, Ghosts, Thieves, Murder and Mayhem Tour. Nightly in Sep & Oct. Fredericksburg, "America's Most Historic City, is also considered to be one of the most haunted cities in the country. So join us to see if you can find any undead on one of our Ghost Tours through historic downtown Fredericksburg. 60 minute carriage ghost tour. This tour is appropriate for all ages, so bring the entire family to search for those who still walk the streets after death! Where: Fredericksburg Visitor Center.

Halloween Costume Swap. Sep 22 - Oct 6. Exchange your child's gently used costume for one that's new to you! Drop off your clean, intact, and stain-free costume at the children's desk anytime September 22-October 6. For each costume donated, you will receive a swap voucher! Costumes remaining after the swap will be donated to Hope House. Where: Salem Church Library.

The Great Pumpkin Fest. Select Weekends from Sep 23 - Oct 29. 12 - 5 pm. Kings Dominion is not all scary in the fall. It's all fun and no fear. Our daytime Halloween-themed events on select Saturdays and Sundays are geared towards children and families. Your favorite rides are also open during the day in Planet Snoopy. Halloween Haunt at King's Dominion. Weekend evenings, Sept 23 - Oct 29. 7 pm. Features ghastly creatures emerging from the darkness, highly-intense and bone-chilling attractions and some of the most hair-raising rides on the planet like the Intimidator 305 and Dominator roller coasters! Ron Rosner YMCA Creepy Crawly Carnival. Oct 13 & 14. 7 - 9 pm. Visit the Ron Rosner YMCA for the 14th Annual Creepy Crawly Carnival. Enjoy a variety of activities for the entire family including carnival games, face painting, a moon bounce, a hayride, a haunted house, all in a safe environment. Creepy Crawly Carnival @ King George and Caroline YMCA. Oct 20, 21. 7 - 9 pm. Hayrides, face painting, carnival games, a haunted area, a DJ, dancing, and a costume contest each night. Bring the whole family out to an event that is safe and family friendly for kids of all ages!

Boo at the Zoo. Oct 20 - 22. 5:30 - 8:30 pm. With more than 40 not-so-spooky treat stations, animal demonstrations, keeper chats, and decorated trails, this event is frightfully fun for the whole family. New this year will be an entertainment stage with a DJ spinning Halloween favorites, musicians, and jugglers. Also, don't miss a themed hay maze and scarecrow field. Spooky Stories By The Shore. Oct 21. 6:40 - 8 pm. Walk the trail of spooks and spiders to the shore for a roasting fire! Haunted Trail @ Wilderness Resort. Oct 21, 27, 28. Get tickets at 7 pm on the night of event. Event starts at 8 pm. Board the hay wagon and you'll be dropped off in the field of terrors! Fright Night in the 'Burg. Oct 26. 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Celebrate Halloween w/ a fun filled carnival and costume contests. Ages 3 - 5 will compete for most original and cutest while ages 6 - 8 and 9 - 11 will compete for most original and funniest! A family costume contest will take place and only one will be crowned "Best in the 'Burg!" Judging will start at 6:15 pm, so be on time! Where: Dorothy Hart Community Ctr, Canal St, F'burg, 22401. Family Campout: Spooky Spectacular. Oct 27. 6 pm. Meet some of Maymont’s spooky creatures as we celebrate “Owl”-oween! Explore the grounds on a lantern-lit hike. Afterwards, we’ll make s’mores and enjoy stories around the campfire. Following a night in your tent on Maymont’s grounds, enjoy a continental breakfast and take a morning hike.

One Eyed Zombie Terror Trail 5K. Oct 28. 4 - 6 pm. Grab your running gear, and prepare to run for your life. Chose to either be a survivor or a zombie as you navigate 5 kilometers of forest trails and roads, while negotiating obstacles. Zombies and survivors run on separate clocks, as the survivors get a 30 second head start and try to out run the living dead. Each runner will have a life belt, and the zombies will try to take flags from it. Each flag taken adds 5 seconds to the survivors time, and takes 5 seconds from the zombies time. Registration is $25 for both survivors and zombies. All proceeds benefiting Special Olympics. Trains, Planes and Automobiles Kids' Race Series


From a small beginning, Cathy Weise of the Ron Rosner YMCA has developed an ambitious three-race series for kids for this summer, with the help of The Great Train Race, Shannon Airport, Dominion Raceway & Entertainment, the Fredericksburg Area Service League and Race Timing Unlimited.

Great Train Race Director Jennifer Taylor was one of the first on board.
