The Community Foundation awards five grants
from Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund

FREDERICKSBURG (January 6, 2015) The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region (The Community Foundation) announces almost $15,000 in grant awards to five local nonprofits through the Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund.

The purpose of the fund, established in 2010, is to support—in a timeless way—the passions that Mr. Green cared deeply about. Among his interests were preservation and providing opportunities for children to have healthy outdoor activities.

The current grant recipients include:

$2,500 Central Virginia Battlefields Trust
Pelham's Monument Preservation and Enhanced Interpretation

The grant provides funding for a concrete base with granite corner blocks that will elevate and preserve an existing Pelham's Corner marker, as a way to enhance the interpretation of the historic site.

$3,310 Ladies Memorial Association
Confederate Stones Replacement

The grant provides flush markers for the mammoth shell to identify 14 sections of the cemetery.

$2,500 Meadowview Biological Research Station
"Cutting Up"

The grant will provide a wood chipper to convert cut brush into path mulch, sustaining trails on the Central Virginia Preserve Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Birding and Wildlife Trail

$3,500 Riverside Foundation for the Performing Arts
Summer Musical Theatre Camp

The grant will fund a two-week summer camp for low income/at-risk children that teaches the basics of on-stage performance through music, choreography, acting and technical projects.

$3,000 Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center

The grant provides funding for the continuation of the Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center.

Each year, the foundation awards Duff McDuff Green, Jr. Fund grants in a two phase process. A cycle to award larger grants will occur in the next few weeks.

Pouches' Community Corner

Pouches Visits the Past

If Pouches' experience at History Camp is any indication, your son or daughter will enjoy joining Washington Heritage Museums and the George Washington Foundation for History Camp in Fredericksburg. The week-long day camp will be held June 25-29, from 9:00 a.m. to noon each day.

Young historians discover American history with hands-on experiences as they walk in the footsteps where the history of Fredericksburg, and a budding America, was created. The camp complements the history taught in classrooms with activities such as soap making, code breaking, colonial crafts, penmanship and much more.
