The weekend of September 21 – 22, 2013 marks the return of the popular "Yankees in Falmouth! and Some Confederates Too!!" living history event to Stafford County, Virginia. The sixth annual edition interprets the Union Army's occupation of the Rappahannock River community of Falmouth during the American Civil War. This free, public event will be held on the grounds of the Moncure Conway House, an Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Historical Site, and the Historic Port of Falmouth Park.

Many special guests will attend this year's event. President Lincoln will attend and be available for photo opportunities. Civil War Calvary soldiers will also be part of the event, representing what it was like for a soldier to live life out of a saddle. red legged devils 400 x 231 copyOther event activities will include daytime and nighttime artillery firing demonstrations, period music by Evergreen Shade, special lectures, strictly military impressions, an encampment, civilian living history interpretation, Civil War artifact displays, and other special activities. Pouches' Community Corner

Pouches Visits the Past

If Pouches' experience at History Camp is any indication, your son or daughter will enjoy joining Washington Heritage Museums and the George Washington Foundation for History Camp in Fredericksburg. The week-long day camp will be held June 25-29, from 9:00 a.m. to noon each day.

Young historians discover American history with hands-on experiences as they walk in the footsteps where the history of Fredericksburg, and a budding America, was created. The camp complements the history taught in classrooms with activities such as soap making, code breaking, colonial crafts, penmanship and much more.
