Parents, when you are packing lunch, remember “Choose My Plate” and pack a grain, protein, fruit and VEGGIE. Swap out side items like chips, pretzels, crackers for raw vegetables or a small green salad. Juice boxes, which are high in sugar and low in nutrition, can be swapped out for water in a fun reusable water bottle.
The Doctor Yum Project is now offering a FREE shopping classes at two area grocery stores. The class is aimed at showing families how to get organized and save money while preparing healthy recipes. Check out our “Cooking Adventures” for kids age 7-12. Kids enjoy nutrition lessons, tastings, cooking skills and preparation of plant-based recipes. Stay tuned for a teen class, too!
We are looking for volunteers. In particular, dieticians and mental health providers are needed to help us launch an Obesity support group for families called “Project Share.”
Information on classes and volunteering can be found at: www.doctoryumproject.org.
