If I had to sum up the last three weeks in a tweet?
Hell. Latent tuberculosis. Norovirus, hardcore. No gym. Sick kids. Stress. No gym. Poor diet choices. Sick grown-ups. Total setback.

You know what else is a setback? The mom diet.
I’m usually really good about avoiding this. Actually, a lot of what my kids eat, I just can’t eat. I don’t have a gallbladder, and I have some other issues that mean I don’t handle typical foods well. Cheeseburgers from the drive thru? No way, not this girl. Deep-fried foods? Nope. Foods with a lot of spices? No go.

And the thought of most meats just gross me out. Happy carnivore, I am not (unless we're talking about chicken). But I’m also a frugal mom. So, when I bake 10 chicken nuggets because my daughter says she wants 10, but she only eats 4… guess who’s eating those 6 nuggets? Me. I won’t waste! (My kids inherited my No way I’m ever eating leftovers crazy gene). The same goes for the macaroni and cheese. Noodles drenched in butter and seasoning. Fruit snacks. Naturally, they never leave the good stuff behind. And my kids will eat some wacky good stuff - roasted brussels sprouts, steamed kale, couscous, spinach. Raise your hand if *you* have a three year old that eats spinach and kale. I bet I’m in that boat alone!

My mom diet this month combined with basically never setting foot in the gym thanks to illness after illness has meant some weight gain for me. So, you know, I’m not super excited or proud of myself right now.

I’m trying to get back on track. My 30th birthday is on the 22nd, and I’ve already made some plans. We’re eating in to avoid salt and fat and overindulging, and I’m picking up *one* cupcake for each of us from a local shop. Instead of ice cream, we’ll have frozen yogurt.  And I bet we’ll go to the gym that day too. And I’m making my husband do Zumba my husband even wants to go to Zumba with me! If it’s nice, we’ll even look for some geocaches. Have y’all heard of Geocaching? If not, look here!

And? I moved the playroom from the basement to an empty bedroom we have upstairs. So now, my elliptical is out and in front of my shiny new smart TV so that I can go to town while I indulge in a little Netflix and Hulu Plus.
AND… shoveling all of that recent snow had to drop a couple of pounds. I never realized just how big my driveway is until this last week. This Texas girl is over winter.

Hopefully I have better news for you next time!
I guess I can be proud that I wasn’t knocked off the horse completely. This lifestyle change stuff is no joke. Hard work. But we can do it!
