TUMBLEBUS

TUMBLEBUS is an option for kid's fun and fitness during the day while parents are working.

You might see a bright yellow, red and blue bus rolling around town wondering what is that? It's a TUMBLEBUS. "A whatbus?" A TUMBLEbus - a mobile gym for kids. This is one school bus kids are excited about getting on. Children's faces truly light up when they see the TUMBLEBUS coming.

TUMBLEBUS is school bus that has been gutted and transformed into a child's sized gym, complete with padded walls and floor, zip line, climbing wall, mats, bar, swings, monkey bar and more.

TUMBLEBUS visits day care centers in Fredericksburg and Stafford usually between 9:00 and Noon and 1:00 to 4:00. Depending upon the center, children are grouped by age and on the bus for 30 minute sessions.

Especially during the winter months, when children can't get out to the playground or in the summer when it is 90 degrees, it's hard for children to get the exercise they need. The TUMBLEBUS is air-conditioned and heated and stays parked and locked during classes. "We only need a spot to park the bus." It's a nice change of pace for the kids - they really get excited when it's Tumblebus day.

The kids really aren't even aware they are exercising; they are so busy having fun. All classes have a theme and are set to music. Children are lead through circuits of organized activities that change every two weeks. Equipment is changed according to the lesson plan and theme, so there is always something new to learn and new activities. One week, they might be batman with a cape scaling the rock wall, jumping over "buildings," chasing the villain across the monkey bars. The next lesson they could be in a jungle trying not to fall in the pond full of alligators making it across the balance beam, and swinging on the trapeze like a monkey.

They really learn motor skills, gymnastics skills, social development, self-esteem, confidence, strength, patience and praise and they have so-o-o-o much fun doing it!

The TUMBLEBUS also hosts birthday parties for up to 15 children and can include t-shirts, invitations, stickers, a special gift for the birthday child and an Olympic ceremony complete with a metal for each child. The TUMBLEBUS comes right to your door - the only thing needed is a spot to park the bus. It is a really great environment for a party especially for the toddlers because it is not too noisy and overwhelming.

What if you are a stay a home mom and want to participate? TUMBLEBUS is also working on getting some neighborhood groups together for classes. It is a really stress free breather for parents at home because TUMBLEBUS comes to you.

Wendy Lattimore, who started Fredericksburg Tumblebus just a few weeks ago, is a mom of two who always wanted to start a business involving children. When she saw an episode of "Jon and Kate Plus 8" on TLC which featured a Tumblebus, she knew it was what she had been waiting for. TUMBLEBUS was founded 21 years ago by a couple in New Albany, Indiana. TUMBLEBUS is now a national program and has been featured on CNN.

Since she is starting the program right in the throws of summer, she is offering a summer 6 week introductory special, complete with an ending Olympic ceremony and medals for all the kids. Once falls comes around, she will then start her year round program. TUMBLEBUS is also available for field trips, picnics, weddings, church functions and other special occasions.
