Air Force Memorial. 11am. Wreath laying ceremony and a two-minute moment of silence will be observed to commemorate those members of the U.S. armed forces who were killed during war. One Air Force Memorial Drive, Arlington.
Grace for Vets FREE Car Wash and Lunch. 9am – 6pm. At Rob’s Car Wash & Detailing Team, veterans may visit either of Rob’s two facilities in Fredericksburg or Spotsylvania from to receive a complimentary wash. Rob’s believes that it is important to remember those who have served our country and has designed a program to emphasize the importance of support for veterans by the general public. Veterans will only need to inform Rob’s Team verbally that they are veterans in order to receive their free car wash. Grace for Vets happens each year at Rob’s Car Wash on Veteran’s day. In addition Noodles & Co. will be giving out lunch for an hour at our Central Park location and Virginia BBQ will be giving out lunch for an hour at our Harrison Crossing location.
Military Card Collection, with 93.3 WFLS. Want to offer some cheer to a service member while setting a new world record? Help us build our Military Card Collection. A military vehicle will be parked in the Food Court of the Spotsylvania Town Centre beginning on Veteran’s Day thru December 10. The goal is to fill it with holiday greeting cards to soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines. A representative from the Guiness World Records organization will be on hand to certify it as the “World’s Largest Collection of Military Cards.”
National Veterans Day Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. 11am. The ceremony begins with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans' organizations and remarks from dignitaries. The ceremony is intended to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces.
Navy Memorial. 1pm. The Naval District of Washington will lay a wreath, at the Lone Sailor Statue in commemoration of Veterans Day. 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC
“Oh My Stars” Quilt Show. 1pm – 5pm. This is the bi-annual quilt show of the Virginia Star Quilters! Over 100 quilts will be on display, including a special display of Patriotic quilts to help celebrate Veteran's Day weekend! This will also be the last chance to purchase tickets for our raffle quilt. The winner will be chosen Sunday afternoon! The show runs Friday thru Sunday (9am – 5pm on Sat/Sun). Veteran’s Day at Mt. Vernon. Nov. 11. 9am – 4pm. In honor of our nation's veterans, Mount Vernon admits FREE all active duty, former, or retired military personnel. Honored guests are also invited to place a flower at Washington's Tomb where the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution present a wreath laying ceremony in honor of our nation's veterans.
Special activities include a free patriotic community concert by the all-veteran barbershop chorus The Harmony Heritage Singers in the Robert H. & Clarice Smith Auditorium at 11:00 a.m. Mount Vernon Salutes Veterans is included in regular Estate admission: adults,$15.00; children ages 6-11, $7.00; and children under 5 are admitted free. Veteran's Salute Celebration at Old Mill Park. 12pm. There will be a parade through downtown Fredericksburg and a celebration at Old Mill Park complete with family friendly activities. Veteran's Day Exhibit at Headquarters Library. 9am – 5:30pm. "America as an Emerging Super Power: America Prepares for World War" The Museum of Valor shares choice items of their 15,000 piece collection in an exhibit to honor all veterans and current military personnel. Vietnam Veterans Memorial. 1pm. Color guard, speakers and a wreath-laying ceremony pay tribute to all who served and sacrificed during the Vietnam War America's other conflicts. Constitution Avenue and Henry Bacon Dr. NW, Washington, D.C.
Vietnam Women's Memorial. 9am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm. Vietnam-era veterans and the children of veterans tell stories "in their own voices" about their experiences. Village Military Communication Post. For those serving in our nation’s armed forces overseas, the holiday season can be a little lonely. That’s why Spotsylvania Towne Centre is thanking our military friends and neighbors in a couple different ways. Beginning on Veteran’s Day, November 11, military families will have the opportunity to reconnect via live video link at the Village Military Communication Post. This “virtual visiting station” will be open in The Village at Towne Centre, next to Fink’s Jewelers, through December 24. FREE!
