Local school-owner Scott McClung is taking on a new responsibility: Child Daycare Council committee member for the state of Virginia for the next three years.
McClung impressed the Regional Director for the Dept. of Social Services, Mary Baldwin, with his leadership of local Montessori school Lighthouse Academy. He was selected in August to represent Christian, Montessori, and for-profit schools on the committee which creates the laws and regulations governing private day cares and pre-schools in Virginia. He will work to make sure that new laws and regulations governing these schools are fair and balanced.
"I hope that I will be able to author new and exciting regulations that keep children safe. I hope to help centers understand the impact they have on the hearts and minds of young children, and to help families understand how involved the government is in the daily raising of their children."
