We love hearing about some of the terrific community services projects our locally owned business are up to, and this one from Baby-Bug Boutique is especially exciting. Check it out!
"The diaper bag project originally started as a quilt donation to a local church in Joplin, Missouri. We had a couple quilts we were going to send, but realized they were smaller than what they were requesting and we didn't have as many to send as they needed. The few quilts we did have were sent to the church and about a week or so later we were e-mailed by a Girl Scout Troop mother in the Missouri region asking if we made diaper bags and would be willing to donate some to families effected by the tornadoes. It wasn't something we were quite making yet, but I wanted to try my pattern out and I contacted the Girls Scouts of the Missouri Heartl about making diaper bags and donating them to be given to families in the Joplin, Missouri area that would need them. The council then referred us to Coventry of Arms for the distribution of the diaper bags.
So, Baby-Bug Boutique is making 20 diaper bags to be sent to Joplin, Missouri. We are making 10 for families with a baby boy and 10 for families with a baby girl. Right now, we have about half the fabric we need in total. Each bag is also going to have a matching burp cloth and Cushy Tushy Case, which is the name of our diaper and wipes holder. The matching items are being made from the remaining material of each diaper bag. Each diaper bag is 17" x 17" and has 22" long padded handles. They can hold a lot of things.
In each diaper bag we are also including 10 size 1 diapers, hand sanitizer, travel first aid kit, baby lotion, baby wash, diaper rash cream, travel containers of baby wipes, a washcloth, bib, bottle, pacifier, sunblock or insect repellent and things along those lines, as far as, baby essentials. We would also like to include a small toy (teething ring, rattle, stuffed animal, etc) or a board book. We still need practically all of these items except for the baby wipes, which we have all 20 of those.
We are still completing the bags themselves and stocking them. The mailing date will be the last Friday in July and they will be mailed to the Freedom Worship Center located in the Joplin, Missouri. We are looking forward to sending these diaper bags to their new owners in need and hope it brings a little cheer to the families who receive them."
Way to go Baby-Bug Boutique!
