The Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation's
Fredericksburg Region Mobile Lab Gets Green Light

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation announced today that the
Fredericksburg Regional Mobile Lab Project is ready for service. The Grace Oughton Cancer
Foundation's Mobile Lab will serve Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Patients in the City of
Fredericksburg and surrounding counties and has overcome all of the barriers to begin service.

Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation's Director of Development, Alec Oughton, says, "A cancer diagnosis affects every aspect of a family's life. This project will give families more control over one small component of their child's care, easing some of their burden and drastically reducing the time and exposure typically required for routine lab work." Oughton continued, "As far as I know, it is the first project of its kind specifically serving this patient population."

The Foundation's project had many hurdles as they pushed forward with this unique service delivery model. "This project required navigation through med-legal, liability, and logistical issues that we are not faced with in any of our other programs," Oughton said. "We are so proud that we are now available to help the Fredericksburg region pediatric cancer patients with a component of their clinical care, and we are excited that we are one step closer to our final goal of a Fredericksburg Region Pediatric Cancer Clinic."

The Mobile Lab will start out on a limited schedule, but at full capacity, it is expected to serve over 100 children per year. The lab will also phase in regular area sites to register bone marrow donors.

The Grace Oughton Cancer Foundation is committed to helping Fredericksburg Area families fighting pediatric cancer by providing clinical, psycho-social, wellness, financial, and logistical support. Pouches' Community Corner

St Baldrick’s Foundation began in 2000 over a simple idea – shave a colleague’s beautiful hair while also raising money for kids with cancer. And now this Foundation has funded over $200 million worth of research to cure pediatric
cancer. In 2015, the FDA approved a treatment that offers a higher chance of a cure for high-risk neuroblastoma patients because of that research.
