Local Students Perform in Virginia Tech Honor Band

(Blacksburg, VA) – Local students Holly Michadick, Hailey Ross, Aaron Petitt and John Yi from Fredericksburg Christian Schools, Fredericksburg, Virginia were selected to participate in the 17th Annual Virginia Tech Honor Band. The event included more than 400 participants from the region who were chosen because of their demonstrated excellence on their instrument. The weekend culminated in a concert on Sunday January 26 in the new Moss Arts Center on the piccampus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Students spent Friday and Saturday rehearsing under the direction of conductors Dr. Andrew Putnam (Virginia Tech), Dr. Polly Middleton (Virginia Tech), Mr. Doug Spruill (Poquoson High School, Poquoson) and Mr. Michael Oare (Great Bridge Middle School, Chesapeake). Students also had the opportunity to work with Virginia Tech music faculty members in a variety of sessions. All events for the honor band were held at the new $100 million Moss Arts Center which opened last November.

St Baldrick’s Foundation began in 2000 over a simple idea – shave a colleague’s beautiful hair while also raising money for kids with cancer. And now this Foundation has funded over $200 million worth of research to cure pediatric
cancer. In 2015, the FDA approved a treatment that offers a higher chance of a cure for high-risk neuroblastoma patients because of that research.
