Urban Trail Ride Still Hoofin'Parks N Rec 400 x 413


FREDERICKSBURG, VA, October 9, 2013 - Fredericksburg Parks & Recreation continues its 5+ year tradition with the Urban Trail Ride, co-sponsored by the Fredericksburg Police Department to benefit the Virginia Recreation & Parks Society (VRPS) Scholarship Program.

This event will be held Saturday, November 9 from 9am-12pm at Old Mill Park, rain or shine unless there is extreme weather.


The group ride, led by retired Fredericksburg Police Officer Jim Shelhorse, will take participants through historic Fredericksburg to visit many of the City's points of interest to include the Rising Sun Tavern. The pace for the group will be a walk and typically takes two hours to complete.


Registration is now open and applications are available both online at www.fredericksburgva.gov/parksandrec under "Special Events" and at the Dorothy Hart Community Center. The cost is $15 before November 1, $20 after that date. All riders must bring their own horse and have proof of a negative Coggins test for the horse. No stallions allowed. Riders 15-18 years old must be accompanied by an adult

The foundation has helped 44 hospitals in 22 states through their Treasured Memories program. The program sends nurses to bereavement training, and provides or supplements the $55 memory boxes that include clothes, booties, handknot blankets, pictures, foot prints, hand prints, clipped hair and other mementos.
