STRIKE, DANCE, RISE (Attend our local gathering!)- Demand an end to violence!
Spend an hour or two with Empowerhouse at the beautiful University of Mary Washington campus on Valentine's Day between 5 and 7 PM. GREAT HALL (Woodard Campus Center)- Come be with us as we join one billion women and those who love us across the globe to stand up in symbolic support of everyone who has or may experience violence against women in our lifetimes.

Although we begin our time together at 5, come anytime - the evening is changing every 15 minutes.

Angela Williams, Research Chairperson for the Women and Girl's Fund, Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region, will serve as MC during our time together. We will greet everyone with a Zumba instructor led dance to celebrate coming together. Each attendee is invited to join in- no pressure- everyone who prefers/needs to sit and enjoy the beauty of our diverse selves rising is welcome to do so!

From there, all our senses will be engaged by music, celebration, and performances of dance and poetry/spoken word. We will listen to one local woman, of one billion women and girls worldwide, talk about her personal story and many individuals will bear witness and tell us why we rise ("I Rise..."). Go to right now and find out why women, men and children are rising worldwide on February 14, 2013! (Be aware of trigger warning on the One Billion Rising short film.)

Won't you rise with us? Free and open to the public and UMW students, faculty, and staff- please stop by after work and/or with your family and join us - if only for a few minutes; we want to count you and report the numbers to our community!!! – No RSVP necessary.
