Spotsylvania Towne Centre participated in a series of bully prevention events at Cafaro Company malls in honor of October as "National Anti-Bullying" month to raise awareness about teaching kids at a young age to be a "buddy not a bully." Phyllis Cafaro, Vice President of Marketing of the Cafaro Company, advocates bully prevention and authored a series of books called Captain McFinn and Friends www.captainmcfinn.com, which focuses on teaching bully prevention at young ages. Lead character, Captain McFinn, is a shark that was a bully and now is a buddy to everyone in the ocean. This multi-media series includes three books, an activity book, sing-a-long music CD, and a free app. There is also an in school educational program multi-media classroom resource kit called Captain McFinn S.H.A.R.K (Students Help Achieve Respect and Kindness) Patrol for educators. The mall events were designed to create awareness by offering the local school a S.H.A.R.K. Patrol kit for in school use and to invite the public to support the program and sign the Anti-Bully pledge.
