Red, White and Blue Rock Hunting Contest Download as iCal file

From Saturday, 01 July 2017
To Monday, 31 July 2017

Belle Grove Plantation, birthplace of President James Madison will be hosting a very special Rock Hunting Contest throughout the month of July. This special event, which is open to the public at no cost will be starting on July 1st. It will end on July 31st.

How it works:

Each day, Belle Grove Plantation will be presenting a clue to find a special painted rock on our Rockin’ at Belle Grove Plantation Facebook page. The rock could be hidden in King George, Westmoreland or Caroline Counties as well as Fredericksburg. The goal is to find the most rocks. As a rock is found, you will need to post a photo to the Rockin' at Belle Grove Plantation Facebook page and announce you found it.

There will be trophies for the top three “Master Rock Collectors”.
There’s one more thing! At the beginning of the month, Belle Grove Plantation will hide a very special rock called the “Golden Madison”. Each day a clue will be given to its location. The person who finds the “Golden Madison” will win a free overnight stay in the Madison Suite at Belle Grove Plantation.

On Sunday, July 9th from 12pm to 4pm, Belle Grove Plantation will host a special All Ages Rock Painting Day. These beautiful rocks will become part of our “Rock Hunt” on Saturday, July 15th during our Red, White and Blue Breakfast and Rock Hunting.

To attend Rock Painting Party, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. It will be important to RSVP so we have enough supplies please.

Why we are doing this:

Belle Grove Plantation is a historic landmark and as such we are always working to raise funds for our non-profit, the James Madison Belle Grove Foundation. This foundation has a PRIME Mission to preserve, restore, improve, maintain and educate the public about Belle Grove and its Amazing American History.

Through the month of July, Belle Grove Plantation will be conducting our Red, White and Blue Fundraiser. We will be placing donation jars in local businesses to help continue to raise the needed funds for this foundation. Through our events, such as the Red, White and Blue Breakfast and donation jars, we hope to raise $10,000 in the month of July. These donations will go towards our current project, the restoration of our 1720 Summer Kitchen, Ice House and Smokehouse. The total cost to restore just the Summer Kitchen and Smokehouse is $200,000. The foundation has raise just $12,000.

Like our Rockin’ at Belle Grove Plantation. Please join us for a great month of fun and help us save Belle Grove Plantation’s history.
