The peepers are peeping, the plants are popping, and summer is sizzling with fun!

On the greener side, ever wondered why we don't use slicks for our magazine? This magazine has always chosen newspaper for its environmental benefits, and now we are in fashion. We are proudly displaying the eco-friendly label, which for so long was nullified by sleeker slicks. If you don't do this already, recycle your Fredericksburg Parent magazine. Yes, give it to a friend, but don't send it to a landfill. Newspaper is recyclable within the communities and slicks are not. Newspaper can also be used as a burning agent for fires, without emitting toxic fumes.

The publisher's girls, Tabitha and Jamie Nell, have initiated some responsible recycling of their own within the walls of the magazine office. Signs are everywhere in children's handwriting, gently reminding, and further creating ways to recycle items. The staff at Fredericksburg Parent Magazine are under new scrutiny to find a place for that which we choose to use.

In this issue, proudly The Natural Nurturer is introduced. This new column begins with a local produce guide and discussion on the spoils of purchasing fruit and vegetables other than locally. The green scene has sparked loads of questions in recent years. We begin this column by reexamining our choices as a global community, specifically regarding produce, and how it affects our health, Mother Earth's future, and our local community. Here local farmers give their input, and it entices responsibility and accountability.

Our writers recommend two books in June. They review one on organic pregnancy and another children's book on adoption. Books Reviewed is another great way we're trying to meet the needs of our readers.

Featured in June is a wonderful display of day trip ideas for Fredericksburg area caregivers. To provide a change of scenery or to enhance summer fun, we hope you enjoy the idea. Local parents have shared with our author their personal favorites.

Overnight camps, day camps, sleepovers, and play dates can be part of a child's summer experience. Our columnist Elaine Stone sheds light on a common problem: homesickness. She provides resources and cites expert opinions on how to prevent and treat homesickness. We provide new angles on an old problem in Family Values this month.

Coming up on August 2 is our After School Activities Expo and Back to School
Fashion Show at Spotsylvania Towne Centre. Mark the calendar for fun and
fashion and check out the wide range of after-school opportunities available
for your kids.

October 3 is our annual Baby Fair and Cover Kids Contest at Spotsylvania Towne Centre. Back by popular demand, we look forward to area children on the cover of the magazine. We need all children, of all ages to represent the demographics of our community. We have not only baby issues but also teen and college issues. Plan to attend this upcoming event.
