WE WENT TO DISNEYWORLD, JUST GRANDPA, GRANDMA, AND ME
(with apologies to Mercer Mayer)
by Mary Becelia

(In April of 2005, my parents very kindly took my 35 month old daughter on a short trip to Disney World. They all had a great, if exhausting time. The piece below is based upon some of their experiences).

My grandpa had a notion to take me on a Big Trip.

So one fine spring day we boarded a plane for Disney World, just Grandpa, Grandma, and me.

Grandpa wanted to kick the seat in front of him, but I told him that would not be nice for the person sitting there. He only kicked it a few times after that.

Grandma poured all her pretzels out onto the tray in front of her. I helped her to arrange them into patterns on her napkin. Then, I helped her to eat them.

We stayed in a big hotel. At night, Grandma and Grandpa both wanted to watch TV and bounce on the beds. I had to help them settle down and get some rest.

The next day we took the shuttle to Disney World! I made sure that we all held hands so that no one got lost. The heat made Grandpa a little bit cranky so I persuaded him to try a popsicle. That made him feel much better.

We enjoyed the Teacup ride, It's a Small World, and the Dumbo ride. Grandpa had a hard time waiting in line for the Dumbo ride and I finally had to give him a time-out. He behaved better after that.

That night we had another go-round before bedtime. Grandma hollered and yelled when it was time for her bath, so I told her we could skip it this one time. She fell asleep, grubby but happy.

We had one more full day in Disney World the next morning, and we made sure we saw many of the characters, such as Minne, Mickey, Donald and Daisy. Grandma was a little bit scared of Goofy, so we skipped seeing him.

We also visited the animal park and found a really cool playground there. I was not sure what the sense was of flying to Florida just to spend two hours in a playground, but Grandpa and Grandma enjoyed it and so I kept quiet.

The next morning we had time for a quick trip to the hotel pool before we got back on the plane. Grandpa rested in the shade, but I went in the pool to keep Grandma company.

On the flight back, Grandma was the one trying to kick the seat in front of her. Grandpa and I had to have a Little Talk with her to get her to stop this.

We were all happy to get home and see Mommy and Daddy. Grandma and Grandpa seemed especially glad.

I told them all about my trip. I can't wait to go again; this time maybe it'll be just Mommy, Daddy, and me. At least that is what Grandpa says.
